The YELLOWTOP OPTIMA is exceptional for SERVICES

Johnson Controls' OPTIMA® YellowTop® battery is the number 1 for RVs and caravans. This is the result of the important laboratory test of the trade magazines Reisemobil International and Camping, Cars und Caravan. The surprising thing is that OPTIMA® showed up with the lowest nominal capacity of 75 ampere-hours and in comparison it was also by far the smallest battery with only 27.2 kilograms. Yet, compared to the competition it provides almost 100 percent of its nominal capacity and therefore a lot of usable energy, like larger and heavier competitors. By way of comparison, gel batteries can only provide about 60 percent of the performance indicated. 
 

"Although in the test OPTIMA® started with the lowest nominal capacity, in almost all tests it provided large amounts of energy and long operating times. Thanks to an extremely fast charge and a high resistance to cycling, it wins the well-deserved test", says the final judgment of the experts.
Industry giant Truma, which has been offering solutions for the caravan industry for more than 60 years, also includes OPTIMA® YellowTop® in its complete Mover packages and even sells the battery. In the Truma tests, the battery was the clear winner.
The secret to this performance is Johnson Controls' patented SpiralCell® technology, currently the most widely used battery technology for use in the caravan industry. Thanks to SpiralCell®, OPTIMA® YellowTop® is not only maintenance-free, powerful and robust, but also economical, environmentally friendly and efficient. 
The principle: Instead of the flat plates of normal batteries, here two thin extrapure lead plates are wound in a spiral cell together with a fiberglass felt. "Thanks to the spiral structure of the plates, the robust molded connections between the cells and the high density of the electrolyte, an extremely low internal resistance is achieved, so the battery can accept powerful currents. The winding also allows almost pure lead to be used, which is reflected in the durability with over 1,000 charge and discharge cycles. This combination of high current capacity and cycling resistance is currently unique," explains Thomas Ruthenberg, Marketing Manager OPTIMA® Batteries. Since the battery retains a high voltage during discharge, up to 100 percent of its stored energy can be used. This saves money in the long term and respects the environment.

 

BATTERY MAINTENANCE

The OPTIMA® battery is truly maintenance-free. When properly loaded, you won't have to worry about leaks, corrosion or gas leaks. Check the battery terminals regularly to make sure they are clean, tight and protected from the elements.

 

BATTERY STORAGE

Given the purity of the lead used for the OPTIMA battery, the self-discharge rate is significantly lower than that of standard flat foil batteries. This means that the OPTIMA can remain idle for long periods of time while conserving the power needed to start your vehicle. Depending on the storage temperature, the OPTIMA can generally remain idle for a period of 8 to 12 months while retaining the charge needed to start most dei vehicles. 
If possible, store the battery in a cool, dry place. Check the battery voltage every 6 months and charge it if the voltage drops below 12.6 volts.

Remember that modern vehicles with electronic equipment such as computers, watches, etc. require sufficient battery power to maintain system memory while the vehicle is stationary. If the vehicle needs to be stopped for long periods, use a maintenance charger to compensate for consumption. This charger must be adjusted with a voltage between 13.2 and 13.8 volts, maximum 1 amps. On older vehicles, without electronic equipment, disconnect the battery cables when the vehicle is stationary for long periods.
